Our Lady, Undoer of Knots
Healing the Ancestral Threads
I want to share the most profound experience I have had with Our Lady, Undoer of Knots (Nuestra Señora Desatanudos).
Her prayer, Her presence, has opened a pathway of healing in my lineage that words can barely contain. When we started the month of Libra – Tishrei, I asked that the light of Divine Union be poured into my family, my lineage. I prayed to Her to heal any type of generational trauma in my ancestry, and I have seen the immediate effects.
Our Lady is here.
In a world where so many carry inner conflicts, emotional blocks, and repetitive patterns that seem impossible to untangle, Our Lady, Undoer of Knots emerges as a gentle Mother who intervenes with grace to release the invisible cords that bind the soul. She never judges, She brings us back to harmony and love.
Her image has comforted countless hearts:
Mary, serene and luminous, untying knots from a long white ribbon handed to her by angels, as she stands upon the serpent, symbol of her triumph over all forms of darkness. Above her, the Holy Spirit radiates through a white dove, the light of divine wisdom guiding her hands.
She is the Mother of Liberation.
The devotion to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots began in Germany in the 17th century.
A couple found their marriage breaking apart. They turned to the Jesuit priest who prayed with them before an image of Mary. The couple gave him their wedding ribbon, tied with knots representing their conflicts.
For twenty-eight days, the priest prayed for them, asking the Virgin to untie the knots of pain that bound their union and one by one, the knots loosened.
In memory of this miracle, the family commissioned a painting depicting the Blessed Mother surrounded by angels, untying the ribbon with patience and compassion.
Centuries later, this devotion found new life when Pope Francis, as a young priest in Argentina, encountered the image and brought it to Latin America. In Buenos Aires, at San José del Talar, pilgrims now gather by the thousands every month to seek her intercession.
The Deeper Symbolism
The Knots: Represent the conflicts, traumas, and inherited patterns that restrict the free flow of grace in our lives.
The Ribbon: Symbolizes the story of our soul — our lineage, our choices, and the delicate thread of destiny that Mary helps to restore.
The Serpent Beneath Her Feet: Signifies her victory over fear, control, and the shadow that binds humanity.
The Holy Spirit: The radiant dove guiding her hands — a reminder that her work is always aligned with Divine Light.
The Angels: One hands her the ribbon knotted with human suffering; another receives it, smooth and untangled — the transformation complete.
Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, not only heals current challenges, she reaches through time and memory, untying the ancestral knots passed down through bloodlines: the wounds of silence, the patterns of suffering, the vows of fear, and the inherited beliefs that once limited love.
Through her grace, these threads are rewoven into light.
For those who have carried the pain of spiritual suppression, women and men whose voices were silenced by religious or cultural systems, she restores our right to speak, create, and embody divine love without fear.
Her hands touch the lineage, her fingers release what generations could not, and she brings faith so we can truly know that we are free.

Prayer to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots
Holy Mary, Our Lady, Undoer of Knots,
Mother of infinite grace,
Today I lift before you the knots that bind my life and my lineage.
You know how much they oppress me and the hearts of those I love.
I entrust them all into your maternal hands, no knot is too tight for your gentle fingers.
Undo these knots of pain and confusion; release what has been entangled through generations.
Through your intercession and by the light of your Son, may all bondage be transformed into blessing.
Wrap us in your mantle of peace and teach us to trust the sacred timing of grace.
Amen.
