Mary Magdalene and the Secret of the Living Well
Be’er Lachai Ro’i — The Well of the Living One Who Sees Me
The Moon does not shine on her own. She turns her face toward the Sun, and in that turning, she becomes luminous. The same is true for us. Our deepest radiance is not self-generated; it arises when we open as vessels and orient ourselves toward the Source of Life.
This is something I have come to know through my own personal experience. Everything that we have and everything that we create is the flow of Divine Light moving through us. When I have tried to force life from my own strength, I have felt empty, disconnected, and fragmented. But when I have allowed myself to turn, to soften, to open as a vessel, I have experienced the miracle of being filled. Inspiration has arrived unannounced, love has moved through me more freely, and even the challenges have carried within them a deeper wisdom.
I have come to trust that the true work is not to desire the light (energy, life force, abundance…), but to orient myself so that I may reflect it. In the moments when I turn toward the Beloved – in prayer, in stillness, in devotion, in the simple act of listening – I am reminded that I am not the source, but I am invited to be a reflection of the Source.
Receptivity is the posture of the heart — the willingness to be seen, to be filled, to allow the waters of blessing to flow into us.
Right orientation is the turning of our gaze — directing our longing and devotion toward what is eternal, aligning with truth and love.
When these two movements meet, the up-flow of our yearning (mayin nukvin) and the down-flow of living waters (mayin dukhrin), the alchemy of union is revealed. The empty well becomes a fountain. The Moon shines with fullness. We become radiant, not by our own striving, but by reflecting the light we have received.
This is why the Zohar calls this mystery Be’er Lachai Ro’i (Aramaic) : “The Well of the Living One Who Sees Me.”
What is the well for us? It is our inner vessel, the part of us that can receive and hold Divine Presence. The well is the womb-space, our Yesod, the subtle channel in men and women where life-force gathers and flows into embodiment. The well is our capacity to be filled with Source, to be in union with what is eternal.
What are the living waters? They are the vitality of the Divine: love, wisdom, and creative energy flowing into us. They are the breath of Spirit that revives, heals, and sustains. The waters that rise upward in longing return to us, descending again into our womb-space, so that we are nourished from within. This is why to walk with Mary Magdalene is also to walk the path of womb activation: not limited to the physical womb, but the spiritual womb of every human being.
How do the well and the living waters manifest in our lives?
When the well within us is open and the living waters flow, we experience clarity instead of confusion, peace instead of fragmentation, vitality instead of exhaustion. Inspiration, creativity, and compassion rise naturally, because we are drinking from an inexhaustible Source. In our relationships, the well manifests as presence and deep listening. In our work, it appears as wisdom and right action. In our spiritual practice, it becomes devotion and radiance. When the well is full, life itself becomes sacred overflow.
Mary Magdalene is the Moon who has turned her face fully toward the Sun of the Beloved. She is the well made full, the vessel radiant with living water. And when the well is full, the Merkava descends: the chariot of divine light in which Magdalene rose to meet her Beloved, and in which we too rise when we allow ourselves to be filled and turned.
What does this mean for us?
Mary Magdalene reflects the mystery of the soul that learns to receive. Like the Moon, she does not generate light on her own; she becomes radiant when she opens to the Beloved, to Divine Source. The “well” is the inner space within us — our heart, our womb-space, our Yesod (the Womb Space Dimension in the Tree of Life) — that can be filled with living waters, the vitality of Spirit. When this inner well is filled, we become luminous, whole, and at peace.
The Merkava is an ancient mystical word meaning “chariot.” It is the vehicle of divine light that allows the soul to rise into union with the Holy One. But this is not only a vision of ascent, it is also about embodiment. The Merkava is radiance itself: the light grounded in our body, our daily life, and our relationships. To say “the Merkava descends” means that divine light takes form within us, so that we become living chariots of Presence in the world.
For those new to this path, this teaching shows us that to walk with Magdalene is to walk a path of receptivity, to allow the living waters of Spirit to fill us, and to embody that radiance in every aspect of life.
Radiance manifests as a quiet strength, a natural magnetism, a presence that uplifts without words. It shows itself when love guides our choices, when compassion softens our judgments, when peace enters the spaces where conflict once ruled. To be the Merkava is to embody light so fully that every action, every step, every breath carries divine intention into the world. We become the Merkava by tending the well within us, by keeping the channel clear, by choosing receptivity and right orientation each day. In this way, our lives become the chariot — vessels of receiving infinite blessings.
The law remains eternal: receptivity + right orientation = radiance.
This is Magdalene’s gift to us. This is the awakening of the Merkava within the soul.
So let us turn our faces to the Source. Let us open, like a well that receives living water, and allow ourselves to be filled. In this fullness we become radiant: living reflections of love and union. Like petals of the Rose, we unfold our beauty; like the chariot of light, we carry the Divine into our daily lives; like flowing waters, we nourish the world with the presence we embody.
Take the rest of these days of the Month of Elul – Virgo to be in compassion, remembering that how we finish the Lunar Year has more power than how we begin the new Lunar Year. (The new Lunar Year begins the 22nd of September).
Important Community Note: Please let me know which topics you are interested in for me to write about and questions as well. For example, las week someone asked me about the Shabbat Candles, if the should be placed in a certain orientation. What an amazing questions! To look towards the East when we Light the Shabbat candles is extremely energetic and symbolic, as this is the direction of the Bridal Chamber.
